Sylvain Granjon competes for the most adorable photo series of the year, but with an approach completely different from our first nomination

Sylvain spent 20 years in the travelling circus before he got his start in photography. His series above, Douce Amère, features his own daughter in her own element.

Sue Austin - Creating the Spectacle (2012)

As part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, performance and installation artist Sue Austin created this series in which she—in her self-propelled underwater wheelchair—explored the magnificence of the underwater world, aiming to generate a widespread public debate about the nature and value of contemporary arts practice shaped by the experience of disability.

Artist’s statement:

“My studio practice has, for sometime, centred around finding ways to understand and represent my embodied experience as a wheelchair user, opening up profound issues about methods of self-representation and the power of self-narration in challenging the nexus of power and control that created the ‘disabled’ as other.”

Illoiha Omotesando climbing wall designed by Nendo

To express the original brand concept of ‘becoming beautiful through movement’ Nendo chose the theme ‘rock-climbing in Omotesando’ and developed a design that uses the mismatch between a rugged outdoor sport and Tokyo’s fashion district to its advantage.

This new Looper Animation is very, very special.

Zach Johnson (who did these painted posters) worked with Noah Fisher to create a gorgeous animation, by hand painting over 700 frames.  The gif above is pulled from it, but you need to see the whole thing.  I want every single one of them on my wall.  Check it out over at Apple Trailers.

In celebration of Looper’s release today, I’m thinking The Made Shop tumblr will be All Looper All Day today.

If you haven’t yet seen the HAND. PAINTED. TRAILER. that Zach made for it, that’d be a pretty good place to start. It’s one of my favorite things Zach has ever made.

Absolutely beautiful.
